I killed my cell phone.

February 21, 2008 / by proudjayhawk

The Hubby and I had our anniversary over the weekend.  We pawned the children off on their dear Aunt, got all gussied up, and went out for a rare night on the town.  We had a lovely meal, complete with bottle of wine and dessert.  Then we saw an improvisational comedy troupe perform and they were hysterical.  Somewhere between the two, I managed to drop my cell phone in a mud puddle.  It amazes me how we survived without cell phones.  I went four days without one and it nearly drove me crazy.  Now, being a working mother, I have pretty much mastered the art of multitasking.  I can talk on the phone, watch the news, and brush my daughters hair all at once.  My crowning achievement is being able to text while I drive.  I know, it's questionably safe, but I'm a bit obsessed with it.  And I haven't been able to do it for FOUR DAYS.  In mommy time, four days is like a year.  But, I got my new cell yesterday.  Now, the trick is remembering my phone numbers.  I'm telling you loyal readers, cell phones have made us, as a society, slightly retarded.  I used to be able to remember numbers like Rain Man.  But then this lovely invention called the Contact List came into my life.  Any  phone number I could ever need at the push of a button.  That all came crashing down with a mud puddle on Saturday night.  So my world has been a bit discombobulated.  But it's coming back into focus.

Is it wrong that my best friend (Farrah #2) and I have a weird sort of competition going on whose mother-in-law is crazier?  We lovingly call mine "The Hurricane" and hers "The Tsunami".  I think right now she's winning, but only because she's pregnant.  And I don't think mine is speaking to me.  The Hurricane goes through these spells where she thinks that I hate her or something so she will take it upon herself to not speak to me for months at  a time.  Which is kind of okay with me.  She still calls and talks to the kids, who by the way are crazy about her.  And she keeps in relatively frequent contact with The Hubby.   I figure I"m okay staying on the outside of the loop.  But Farrah #2's MIL is driving her to the brink,.  Everyday it's another phone call with some off the wall comment that The Tsunami has made.  This poor kid doesn't stand a chance.

Loyal readers, allow me to give you some advice.  Don't drop your cell phones and keep in mind that you marry not only the person, but also their families.  Till we meet again, tell your friends.
